Sending You Hugs

 Hello Again Crafty Friends!

My project today features unique products from the Little Birdie Crafts company.  I have a mixed media card using their adorable Woodland Stories Embellishments pack.

To start, I took a piece of the wood grain paper from the Texture Brew paper pack.  I knew I wanted to do a layered and grunged up look so I took the wood grain paper and stamped on it in black ink using the Whimsical Garden stamp.  Then I added some black in to the edges to give it a worn look.

I hunted through the enormous pack of embellishments - they are all so gorgeous it's hard to pick only a few!  They have this beautiful glittery accents on all the pieces and the little birds are so darn cute!  Once I picked my tag to start, I started playing with making a scene that I liked, incorporating flowers and birds to go along with the colors I was trying to use in my project.

I used a piece of white paper to stamp the sentiments from the Thinking Of You stamp set.  I did the top portion in black and the "hugs" portion in heat embossed copper.  I wanted the sentiment to really stand out.

I layered all my pieces together and wanted the orange color to shine through so I cut a feather using the Thin Cut Metal Dies.  I darkened it up a little using a green ink and a bit of the black.  I also added some of the banners from the pack of embellishments so that I could spread my design out across my cardfront.

After adhering everything down, I absolutely needed a little bling to draw the eye.  I chose to use the Pearl Drops in Lemon Whip to add some yellow tones to my card.

I really loved how this turned out and I'm proud to be stepping out of my comfort zone and doing mixed media.  I enjoy the limitless possibilities of using many different kinds of media to make my idea come to life.

I hope I've inspired you to try something new and that you enjoy reading about my process. Have a great day!

Beautiful Butterflies

Hello Again, Friends!

Today I've got a fun mixed media card showcasing the lovely Poppies and Roses paper collection by Little Birdie Crafts.

To start off, I found this portion of paper with the pretty bird and the writing in the background and thought it'd be perfect for a mixed media piece.  I cut it down and layered it over a piece of the textured paper from the Chevron in Aquarelle pack.  The canvas/linen feel this paper has is really neat!

Next, I heat embossed using gold powder.  I only used a portion of the gorgeous background stamp called Impressions from Little Birdie Crafts.  I knew this rough hexagon would be a perfect accent to my project.

Then, I tinted the Mulberry Sparkle Paste using a little of the watercolor to get it to a tone that went well and accented my project.  I "splattered" it all over the lower portion and the left side.  I really like how it adds some dimension and some sparkle!

Next, I heat embossed in white onto some watercolor paper.  My card was starting to tell me it wanted butterflies so I used the Watercolor Pan set to add color to my images.  I tried to mix colors that would look natural but also keep my color scheme going.  I then tore around the edges instead of trimming them.  This "imperfect" look feels great for this mixed piece.  I sponged on a little ink around the edges so they wouldn't be stark white.  I used dimensional tape to adhere the butterflies.

Lastly, I stamped the word Beautiful from the Butterfly Kisses stamp set. Once boldly and then many more times faded.  I like that the card gets to speak for itself.  A few iridescent flat sequins and we're done.

I hope you enjoyed this fun mixed media piece and that you are inspired to get out those watercolors and embossing powders and have a play!  Until next time....
