Hello Crafty Friends!
I have a fun Birthday card for you today featuring the Songs of the Sea paper pack from Little Birdie Designs. Lets get into the details, shall we?
So I knew I wanted to use this particular piece of paper with the gorgeous mermaid hanging from the hook and the music notes playing so I found a creative way to use the paper as a stamp in a way. I cut my rectangle with a framelit so I'd have a window to display my wavy background piece.
I then took a piece of watercolor paper and used this wave stencil from Hero Arts to letter press emboss the paper. Emboss the paper, with a stencil??? YES!!! I learned this in an online class I took recently. I'd never done it before and I LOVE the results it gave me! I sprayed the stencil with a solution of Gesso and soft blue chalkboard paint by LBD. Then I placed the stencil on top of my watercolor paper piece and then I ran it through my Big Shot with a rubber mat to letter press emboss the whole design. Pretty cool, huh? I especially loved how it was lighter at the top and darker at the bottom....very much like the real ocean!
After adding all that to my card base, it needed a little something more so I added a piece from the Songs of the Sea Ephemera pack. I popped it up on some dimensional tape. I also added some pearl drops in the colors of Jade Isle, Aqua and Dew Drop all over my card front to mimic the natural bubbles in the ocean.
Lastly, I took a stamp greeting from the Loads of Wishes stamp set and heat embossed it in silver at the top to complete my card. I also used a glue pen to add some iridescent glitter from my stash to the bottom edges to mimic a sandy bottom :)
I hope you enjoyed this project! I'd love to hear how you liked it or what you liked best or maybe even if you learned anything new.....creating and sharing is my passion! Have a wonderful week!
